A five-year-old weightlifter, Miss Precious Martin, has clinched nine medals in weightlifting at the National Schools Sports Festival in Port Harcourt.
Martin, who did not have any competitor, won three gold, three silver and three bronze medals, demonstrating her talents to the delight of the spectators on Friday.
The weightlifter from Cross River State, told the News Agency of Nigeria that weightlifting was her passion and that she was set to do her state and the country proud.
“I am just five years and 11 months old and in Primary One; my mummy, who is a coach in the game, taught me weightlifting.
“I hope to continue to work hard to be successful at the game.
“I was the only one who participated in the game because I know that I can do it,’’ she said.
Young Martin won the nine medals in the 7kg junior primary category as a lone participant.
Cross River State Weightlifting Coach, Mrs Helen Martin, described the young medallist as “courageous’’.
Martin, who is also the mother of the young weightlifter, said that her daughter was determined to be a champion in the game.
