An Egyptian group calling itself “Stop the protests!” urged citizens to march in the streets with them in an effort to curb the wave of protests that have been spreading throughout Egypt, international media reports.
The group, whose number of supporters continues to swell, has grown increasingly dissatisfied with the fact that in the last five days alone, several new protests, all with completely different motives, have been organized throughout Egypt. Protesters in Suez and Port Said, who oppose President Mursi’s new police curfew, were joined by protesters condemning the court’s sentence imposed on those responsible for the deaths of 74 people at a football game last year.
The two groups say that the number of people on the streets of cities across Egypt is growing because they have been joined by other protest groups who support their protest agendas. However, the group “Stop the protests!” claims that the various protest groups are the ones responsible for people taking to the streets en masse and that they’re “sick of all the protesting.” “I just couldn’t watch those who are all day, every day doing nothing but hanging out on the streets anymore. They’re just standing around in town squares and shouting gibberish. I just couldn’t take it anymore.
Nobody in Egypt is doing anything else except protesting. And that’s the only reason I decided to remain here, to protest until all of the protests come to an end! I’ll protest against protesting ’till the death if I have to,” said one of the “Stop the protests!” protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. In the meantime, a third group of protesters has recently assembled who say they share a common set of values, as people who are fed up with the protesting and protesting about protesting.
The new anti-protest group has announced that if the other two groups don’t stop their protests, they will summon people from all over Egypt for mass protests against the protesters and those who are fighting against them.
