Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, has won the African Leadership Magazine Award for best Governor of the year in the area of Peace and Reconciliation in the North West geo political zone.
Governor Yakowa according to former Vice President Alex Ekwueme was nominated for the award due to his tact in handling the security challenges in Kaduna State.
The award was presented to the governor in Abuja at a ceremony tagged: “Heroes of Nigerian Democracy and development Awards – 2012”, held at Sheraton Hotel and towers, Abuja.
According to the organisers, the choice of Yakowa from the North West was unanimous because the heterogeneous nature of Kaduna State which makes it a mini Nigeria takes a man with versed leadership quality and experience to govern.
In his response, Governor Yakowa said the award was a morale booster for him to do more for the state. According to him, his cardinal objectives for Kaduna State was; security, unity and development which would restore the enviable position of the state.
He called on the people and friends of the state to rally round the political, traditional, religious, women and youth leaders to restore the state to the path of peace, harmony and security for investors to come and invest. This he added would generate employment and engage the youth for productive activities.
The governor reiterated the commitment of his government towards ensuring the security of lives and property despite the security challenges the state currently faces.
