A suspected bomber and three other Bauchi indigenes were on Monday night injured by an explosion that hit the People’s Hotel located around Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi city.

Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ladan, while speaking with newsmen at the police headquarters, Bauchi said that the bomb explosion which hit the area around 9pm injured a woman and three other men, stating that even the bomber was not spared.

The Commissioner affirmed that the three of the victims who were rushed to the hospital have been discharged already. It was confirmed that the victims were taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital immediately after the blast.

He said: “We suspect that the remaining victim, who is currently on admission, is the one that carried out the act because of the degree of injury on his body. But we are still investigating the matter. Part of the building was partially blown off by the blast and no causality was recorded.”

Ladan stated that when the suspect was interviewed, he alleged that some men within the Bauchi market area came and enquired if he was a policeman, and upon disclosing his identity to them, they over-powered him and took him to an unknown destination. He said that that’s all he could remember as he later found himself being injured in a blast. Home Page
