Yesterday, a tanker lorry loaded with substance believed to be petroleum product crashed into vehicles along the Benin-Onitsha Expressway. Three persons were killed, while three others were seriously injured.
Victims of the accident were travelling in Toyota Camry (registration number DT 209 D06), Toyota Camry (registration number DY 134 FKJ) and Toyota Corolla (registration number EKY 294 AW). They were all heading towards Onitsha on the same lane when the tanker crashed into them around the Summit - Mariam Babangida Area of the Expressway. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure.
Reports say the driver of the tanker escaped immediately from the accident scene, while the victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre. Unfortunately, three out of six of them died on the way.
Identities of the victims could not be ascertained.
An eyewitness said the tanker’s registration number was removed by unknown person before the arrival of the road safety officials.
