Bayern Munich confirmed today that Borussia Dortmund attacker Mario Gotze will join the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions in July.
Speculation surrounding Gotze's future gained some considerable strength on Monday after multiple sources claimed that the 20-year-old would join Bayern during the summer, and the club announced the impending signing in a statement on its official website.
"Bayern Munich confirm that the club have reached an agreement with national team player Mario Gotze that he will play for Bayern Munich from 1 July 2013," read the statement. "Bayern are prepared to meet the release clause agreed between Borussia Dortmund and Mario Gotze."
The release clause is reportedly set at approximately $48 million, meaning that Gotze will become the most expensive German player of all time.
Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are set to resume Champions League play this week as they face Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively, in the semifinals.
