There was no afterparty for Rick Ross (real name William Leonard Roberts) on Sunday night after shots were fired at his Rolls Royce as the rapper was leaving a nightclub after his 37th birthday party.
Police said the incident happened at about 5 a.m. when Ross and his passenger, Shateria L. Moragne-el, 28, heard multiple shots fired towards their vehicle.
Ross and his entourage made it out of the gunfire unscathed. But police say local businesses were hit and Ross’ vehicle crashed into an apartment building as he attempted to make a quick getaway in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
A resident in the building that Ross crashed into told the local TV station: "It was about 5:30 in the morning, jumped out of bed, looked out the window, and there’s a car in my front yard."
Police have made no arrests and no suspects have been identified.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and police are hopeful this footage will lead to an arrest. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Ross is suspected of having links to gangs in the Miami area.
In 2009, Ross founded the Maybach Music Group and released his album Deeper Than Rap and Teflon Don featuring collaborations with Ne-Yo and Kanye West. His most recent album, God Forgives, I Don’t is nominated for this year’s Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and he also wrote a song for Quentin Tarantino’s film Django Unchained, called 100 Black Coffins.
It is well-known that the rapper is feuding with 50 Cent. Here's 50's opinion on the crash:
