About 12 hours before his kidnap, Kehinde Bamigbetan, the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State apologised to his fans and followers on his facebook page and twitter handle for his silence in the previous week promising that posts of his activities at the council will be made available on his blog, www.kehindebamigbetan.com.
He stated that the posts will grant fans access to great news from Ejigbo and stated his plan to re-launch the local government website, www.ejigbooline.org for effective dissemination of information.
“Apologies to my friends and subscribers for the silence on this page in the last one week. Sometimes, you retreat to review the performance of your communications strategy and re- focus. My posts here will be available on my blog on www.kehindebamigbetan.com and my twitter pages so that more people can have access to the good news from Ejigbo LCDA. I also hope to re- launch the local government website- www.ejigboonline.org which is being re-designed for more effective information dissemination.” Mr. Bamigbetan posted on Monday afte 9:00a.m.
Mr. Bamigbetan, a former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos, was kidnapped on Monday night at about 11:00 p.m. while being driven home by his driver.
The kidnappers reportedly shot into the air as the chairman was being driven into his street in Ejigbo. They stopped his car, beat his driver, and took him away.
Mr. Bamigbetan, a former students’ union leader of Obafemi Awolowo University is very active on social media, using every opportunity to discuss his task, challenges and achievements as a council chairman.
His kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of $1 million (N155 million). A source close to the politician said negotiations are ongoing with the kidnappers.
The Lagos Police said they have commenced investigations into the kidnap while the Oodua Peoples Congress has mandated its members in the South West to be part of the search for the council boss.
His friends and followers on Facebook have bombarded the page with prayers, and pleas for the kidnappers to release the council boss.
