Igala To Witness Ata Coronation After 57 Years

The former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and chairman, Central Planning Committee for Ata’s Coronation, Dr Ahmadu Ali, has described the coronation as historic because it was last witnessed 57 years ago.

He added that the final coronation and presentation of staff of office to His Royal Majesty Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni holds on April 27, 2013.

Addressing a press conference at the Ata Igala’s palace yesterday, Senator Ahmadu Ali said they were ready for the ceremony.

He said, “To us, the Ata Gabaidu is the rallying point of Igala ethnic group. He is the custodian of the people’s culture and traditions. The Central Planning Committee was inaugurated by His Royal Majesty with the responsibility of ensuring the success of the exercise slated for 27th of this month.”

The former PDP chairman expressed gratitude to the chairman of the selection committee that produced Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni as the 23rd Ata Igala from the Ayegba Omidoko dynasty.

According to him, the quick resolution of the dispute arising from the succession to the throne of Ata Igala was a good thing that has happened to the Igala race, commending the state government for his appointment and approval.

According to him, 10 committees have been set up to ensure the success of the event which will feature the “Igala Night” where Igala sons and daughters at home and in diaspora will be expected to attend.

He said President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to grace the occasion, adding that he had delivered the invitation to him as a title holder (Eju-Ata) in Igala Kingdom.

Ali, however, appealed to the people of the area to desist from acts that are capable of causing security breach during the coronation.
