Hyderabad, India: A group of Nigerians and Somalians clashed with locals in the province of Devarkonda Basthi in urban commercial center Banjara Hills on Tuesday, leaving a few wounded, police says.
The tussle broke out around 5.45 pm when a Nigerian allegedly abused a local when the latter objected to the Africans playing cricket in a street which has a mosque and a temple on either side.
According to locals, there is a large number of African students, primarily Nigerians, along with Somalians, who live in the area.
"When we objected to them playing cricket, they used filthy language, and after this the quarrel broke out. They even called their friends from other parts of town and fought with us. The police came and brought the situation under control," a local resident narrates.
When contacted, Banjara Hills inspector P Murali Krishna said that there were four people from each side who were taken into custody and a case registered.
