The police in Lagos State have arrested a 24-year old boy, who kidnapped and killed a seven-year-old neighbour of his, in Ikotun area of the state.
The suspect, Onyeka Patrick, who claimed to be a footballer was arrested by men of Ikotun Police Station from where he was transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad station.
Patrick had, after killing the young boy identified as Ayuba, packed his remains into a sack, which he dumped into a soakaway pit in Mumako Estate, in Oke Kube area of Ikotun.
The suspect had on Saturday reportedly lured the young boy to his compound, where he gripped him and strangled him to death, before demanding a ransom of five million naira from the deceased boy’s parents.
He had initially denied being responsible for the death of the boy when he was still at Ikotun police station, but opened up, after two days of his transfer to SARS.
The police imagemaker in the state, Ngozi Braide, while parading the suspect before newsmen on Tuesday afternoon, decribed the incident as “pathetic.”
Braide added that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded on the incident.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the suspect was arrested after his elder brother identified the hand writing of the kidnappers to be that of Patrick.
Patrick, had in his own handwriting, written to the parents of the boy, asking for a five million ransom before he could release the victim.
Patrick, while speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, confessed to have abducted and killed the boy but blamed it on a spiritual force beyond him.
“It is true that I killed the boy and after that, I demanded for N5 million from the parents but I did not have the intention of killing the boy, but a spirit entered me and forced me to strangle the boy to death,” he stated.
The remains of Ayuba had been deposited at Ikeja General Hospital, while investigations have continued on the incident.
