Four persons sustained gunshot injuries, Tuesday, when robbers on a motorcycle shot and dispossessed a motor dealer and a bureau de change operator of millions of naira.
The incident happened at Idiape area of Ibadan.
According to an eye witness account, the robbers blocked the two men who were coming from a bureau de change where some foreign currencies were changed into naira.
People were said to have scampered for safety when the robbers shot indiscriminately to scare away passers-by while walls in the area were riddled with bullets.
Unknown to the two men whose names were given as Wasiu Gbadamosi and one Bature, they were being trailed by people a motorcycle
The source said: “Immediately Wasiu and Bature alighted from their Okada and moved towards their office, one of the robbers moved towards Bature, fired a shot at him and grabbed the bag containing the money.
“As the robber was about to escape, Wasiu grabbed the bag from him, clutching some of the packs of N1,000 notes. The robber then fired another shot at Wasiu and as he fell, some of the naira notes scattered on the ground.
“Finally, the robber fired more shots to scare people then escaped after packing the scattered notes. Nobody could move near him, but we were watching from the distance where we hid, seeing him picking the money, and then escaping on the bike that brought him.”
He added that two other persons were hit by stray bullets. I saw the man picking the N1,000 notes. I thought he was a policeman, who had come to rescue the situation. By the time he climbed on Okada and it sped off, it dawned on me that he was a robber. We later rushed the injured men to the hospital.”
