Owelle Oscar, who made the appeal in a chat with the media in Abuja recently, said though the team had tremendously improved, judging from the pre-tournament friendly matches, they should work extra hard to live up to the expectations of many Nigerians by playing, at least, in the semi-finals.
“I have to confess that I’m satisfied with what I have seen so far. I watched their friendly match against Catalonia selected side and I can tell you that those boys were very fantastic. I equally watched them in the victory over Venezuela in an international friendly, I have to confess to you that these boys impressed me much.
“I’m definitely sure they would get to the semi-finals in South Africa. In this kind of tournament, once a team gets to the semi-final, anything can happen. I want to admit that the boys have made us proud. Good enough again, for once, the home coach is doing very well.
“Keshi has really done very well and the only thing left is for him to try and reconcile with other players because we need all hands on deck. Osaze must be brought back because he is gifted young player.
“There are other players we have high hopes on to take Nigerian football to the next level. We know that sports is what unites all of us and I know we will do well. I’m sure the team will not break Nigerians’ hearts,” he said.
On why he allowed Udoji United to die he replied: “The truth was I started getting headaches managing Udoji United FC. You know that running a football team in this country is difficult thing.
Don’t forget that MKO Abiola tried it, but could not succeed. There is much hypertension and stress, it was not easy. “I may consider coming back in future when sports is run the way it is supposed to be run. Time will come when competent hands will administer football and sports in this country,” he added.
