There is no let up in the war of words between the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and former secretary to the Oyo State Government and chieftain of the Accord Party, Mr. Ayodele Adigun, over the alleged attempt on his life and the killing of his guard last week.
The ruling party in the state had asked the inspector general of police to investigate the murder, which it said might have been stage-managed to gain cheap publicity and sympathy for Adigun and his party. But, Adigun fired back yesterday saying the assassination might have been masterminded by the ACN.
The ACN, in a statement signed by his Publicity Secretary, Dauda Kolawole, earlier in the week, said the call for an investigation became necessary to forestall the possibility of some people it said were renowned for turning every issue into a political advantage from getting away with the murder of the hapless night guard whom it said was probably sacrificed for political propaganda. But, reacting to the statement in Ibadan yesterday, Adigun, described the statement as “not only uncharitable, barbaric and imbecilic” but, that it had also showed the level of depravity, which the mind of the ACN spokesman had sunk to.
“Mr. Kolawole has indeed judged me with his own values and that of his party, which unfortunately is not applicable to my person,” the former government scribe said.
He added: “As a practising Roman Catholic, I value and uphold the sanctity of human life and as I take politics as a hobby and not a do-or-die affair, it is unimaginable that I can subscribe to the satanic notion that reigns supreme in the field of imagination of Mr. Kolawole and his party.”
Suggesting that the ACN might not be excluded from the machination, Adigun threw the following posers: “Who were those constantly opposing and abusing my person over the months in the mass media deriding my constructive criticism of the inhuman policies of the Oyo State Government? Who were those who recently libelled me in the print and electronic media, alleging that I bought 20 government quarters when I was the secretary to the government of Oyo State?
“And who were those I took to court for libel and who have been boasting that I would not live to witness the judgement since they cannot file any defence to support their libellous claims?”
He urged the police authorities to invite Mr. Kolawole for interrogation to throw more light on his allegation and to do a thorough job to unravel those behind the heinous crime.
