On Thursday, the police in Kogi paraded an 80-year-old man among 13 others suspected to be armed robbers.
The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Katsina, said the elderly man was allegedly engaged in travelling to Ibadan to buy arms and ammunition for the robbers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that among the suspects was a rape convict granted amnesty and a suspected car thief, who allegedly stole a car in Port-Harcourt and was arrested in Kogi.
Katsina said he would get in touch with his counterpart in Rivers to hand over the case to him for the suspect’s arraignment in Port-Harcourt and for the owner of the vehicle to recover it.
The police also pared a five-member armed robbery gang, who allegedly robbed a traditional ruler in Kabba area and took N900,000 from him.
The police said the suspects also robbed Mr Ayo Olukayode, of N16,000 and stole his Honda Accord away.
Others were members of a notorious robbery gang, which operated on Ogori-Okene road, three of whom escaped police arrest and were declared wanted in 2010.
Katsina said that items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 gun, one double and three single barrel guns, five pistols, 56 AK-47 ammunition, 14 catridges, charms, cars, TV set, a motorcycle and others.
The commissioner said the suspects would be arraigned as soon as s investigations into their matters were concluded.
