Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress said on Thursday the rally it organised in support of the second term ambition of Governor Olusegun Mimiko was to appreciate his welfare package for civil servants.
Head of Women wing of the NLC in the state, Itioola Olowosuko, in Akure the workers had cause to show appreciation because Mimiko did not deny them their rights since he became governor.
She said, “Normally, workers are supposed to support any government in power, but we are supporting the Labour Party because it is the workers’ party. And our amiable governor takes care of workers welfare as his priority and he is a listening governor.
“This is why we are appreciating him and we want him to serve a second term in office. It is going to be a challenge for whosoever that is coming after him because no one can stand on the footprint of what he has done.
“We have been seeing governors but he is quite different from others that have governed Ondo State” Olowosuko explained.
Meanwhile, the Concerned Muslim Youths of Ondo State on Thursday appealed to Mimiko to retain the deputy governorship slot for the Muslims during his second term tenure.
The group, in a letter to the governor and signed by Musibau Ekunni, Ishaq Abdurasaq and Kehinde Oyelade, said since the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Alli Olanusi is a Muslim, the governor should ensure that the slot is reserved for the Muslims.
