Unemployed Pleads Guilty To Marijuana Deal

A 32-year-old unemployed man, Nzube Ariwodo, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to illicit drug deal before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Ariwodo admitted during arraignment by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that he illegally dealt on 3.71kg of marijuana.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, thus remanded Ariwodo at the Ikoyi Prisons, and adjourned the case till Jan. 22 for review of facts and sentencing.

"In view of the plea of the accused, he is hereby convicted summarily as charged," the judge held.

According to prosecutor, Mr Orji Kalu, Ariwodo, a resident of Ajangbandi in Lagos State, committed the offence on July 24, 2012.

He said that Ariwodo was apprehended with the banned substance by Custom officials at the Agbara Customs check point on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Orji said that Ariwodo concealed the marijuana in a bag.

He said that the offence contravened Section 11 (C) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
