A 27-year old Nigerian, John Adetokunbo, has been remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri for allegedly bathing three friends with a substance believed to be raw acid. The incident happened during a fight at Ajasa Command area of Ipaja, Lagos State.
Adetokunbo was arrested by the police and charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting at Abule-Egba for the alleged offence. The victims, Jamiu Akogu, Basiru Usman and Waisu Mufutau were seriously burnt as a result of the attack and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
It was gathered from police sources that the three friends, while were ridint a motorcycle, hit Adetokunbo who plies the area with his tricycle popularly called Keke NAPEP.
An argument ensued between them on who was right or wrong and that resulted in a fight.
It was during the scuffle that Adetokunbo allegedly brought a bottle of raw acid he kept in his tricycle and poured it on the victims.
He was arrested and taken to the police station.
During interrogation, Adetokunbo could not explain why he kept raw acid in his tricycle which he poured on the victims. He was charged to court for the alleged offence.
The prosecutor, Mr. R. Williams said the offence the defendant committed was contrary to section 243 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State 2011.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. O. A. Komalefe granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 20 February, 2013. He was remanded in prison custody till he perfects his bail condition.
