The Orile-Agege Grade ‘B’ Customary Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria has dissolved the 26-year old marriage between Mr. Rashidi Gbadamosi and his wife, Mrs. Bamidele Gbadamosi, over insincerity.
Delivering judgement in the divorce suit filed by Rashidi Gbadamosi before the court, the court president, Mr. Joseph Adewusi regretted that the 26-year old marriage that produced four children had broken down irredeemably because of Mrs. Bamidele Gbadamosi’s insincerity.
The 65-year old petitioner had approached the court for dissolution of the marriage, claiming that the respondent was troublesome and was always cursing him. He alleged further that she once stole his money.
When the matter was first mentioned, the petitioner’s counsel, Femi Bakare was in court with his client but the respondent was absent and she was not represented by a lawyer.
Bakare informed the court that Gbadamosi instituted the action in September 2012, but family members intervened and set out terms of agreement which the respondent failed to honour.
The counsel explained that former Mrs. Gbadamosi had collected a total of N460,000 from the petitioner to rent an accommodation and vacate her matrimonial home. He said she failed to rent a house or leave her husband’s home as agreed during the meeting.
At the resumed hearing of the matter, the court took the evidence of both parties.
The petitioner in his evidence, alleged that one day, he called on the respondent to massage his back with an ointment but the next thing he knew was that he woke up at Ahmadiya Hospital, Ijaiye, Lagos State and when he returned home his N10,000 was missing.
He added that his son, Kazeem attended Olabiyi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye but for six years he had nothing to show for the fees and other money he expended on him.
With the support of his mother, he alleged that Kazeem travelled to South Africa and was deported.
However, the respondent denied all the allegations. She admitted he was admitted in the hospital after she rubbed his back but denied stealing his money.
The court president, Adewusi noted that the 26-year old marriage could not survive because of the respondent’s lack of transparency.
He therefore dissolved it.
