Man Remanded Over Stabbing Brother To Death

Thirty one-year- old Akinjide Akinsanya, arraigned before a Lagos State High Court for allegedly killing his younger brother Idris Akinsanya, has been remanded in prison custody.

Akinsanya is facing a one count charge of murder as preferred against him by Directorate of Public Prosecution. He was said to have committed the crime at No 1 Ola Oja Close, Ejigbo, Lagos State on October 21, 2009.

According to prosecution counsel Femi Adamson, the defendant killed Idris at about 4:30pm on that fateful day when both of them were engaged in physical fisticuffs.

The deceased was said to be living with the defendant. It was alleged that deceased was in the habit of late night outing, leaving the door of his brother’s apartment opened which prompted Akinjide to ask him why he often embarked on night outings without informing his guardians of his whereabouts.

The brother’s enquiries degenerated into fisticuffs. Idris was said to have got angry and broke a bottle and stabbed the defendant in his head before dashing for a knife outside. Both men were said to be dragging the knife when in the process, the defendant mistakenly stabbed Idris in his chest which promptly led to his death. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge.

The presiding judge, Justice Lateefah Okunnu, ordered that he be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to June 18 and 19, 2013 for trial.
