Keshi: Why I Didn’t Defend Eagles’ List

Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has disclosed that he did not bother defending his team list for the invited foreign-based players before the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical sub-committee because as far as he was concerned, the committee had been dissolved.

Fielding questions from the media during the traditional weekly parley, Keshi said there was no rift between the federation and himself over the team’s list, accusing the media of generating the controversy.

“I don’t know where the problem is coming from that we are always looking for rift or crises. There was no misunderstanding between the federation and myself over the team’s list. We made the list and gave it to the NFF and it is their responsibility to make it public through the media. It was never a problem, but I read this today and that tomorrow. We don’t have problem except that created by the media,” he said.

On why he did not defend the list, he replied: “I did not defend my list before he technical committee because there was no such committee in place. I think the committee has been dissolved. So, I sent the list direct to the secretariat for necessary action.”

On why he brought in new faces among the foreign pros, he said: “I brought the new boys because they have the quality I believe can do something for this country. I have seen them play on about three occasions. I have watched Babatunde Michael and I think he is going to be a fantastic player for the national team.

“We have many of them out there that are ready to play for this country but the media need to promote and give them confidence that they can do it. We cannot continue to be relying on the older players. Let us have people who will take over when the older players leave the team. That is what we are trying to do,” he added.
