60-Year-Old Man Killed By Family Members Over Land Dispute

Police are investigating an incident where a 60-year-old man was hacked to death by his relatives following a land row.

Charles Maina is said to have sold a piece of land which was at the center of controversy without seeking the approval of other family members.

The family objected his move to sell the land stating that it was the only ancestral land they boasted of but the deceased insisted on selling claiming that he needed money to have his home installed with electricity.

Nyandarua OCPD Benjamin Onsongo confirmed the incident saying that the day when the President-elect was declared the winner coincided with the day he sold the piece of land. He decided to pitch camp at a local pub to celebrate the victory.

Onsongo said that a group of men believed to be his relatives pounced on him at the pub hacking him to death. They left without taking anything. He added that a number of relatives had been arrested and will be taken to court to answer to murder charges once investigations are complete.

The body was taken to JM Kariuki Ol Kalou District Hospital mortuary.
