Mba: Falana Defends Rangers

The battle over which club owns Super Eagles Nations Cup winner, Sunday Mba appears to be nearing its end following yesterday’s meeting of the Nigeria Football Federation with the aggrieved parties, Rangers International of Enugu and Warri Wolves.

The Rangers team was led by Human Rights Lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, who was propped up by two other lawyers in arguing Rangers’ case for ownership of Mba, who became a star for scoring two crucial goals in Nigeria’s road to 2013 AFCON glory.

After listening to both sides argument, that the NFF was said to have reserved ruling for today.

Falana argued that Mba signed a contract for Rangers and that the deal was to elapse in 2014. However, it was learnt that Falana argued that since Mba’s had always gone on loan deals with former clubs like Dolphins that it was a normal process to go through.

In their own defence, Warri Wolves team, which was led by the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Pinnnick Amaju presented documents to prove that Mba was still their player. It was reported that Amaju also tendered the request Rangers made to Warri Wolves for the transfer of Mba, who the former was said to have informed the house was yet to be sold to Rangers.

However, Falana was reported to have argued that the transfer request, which Amaju was said to have alluded to, was made in error and that it was provisional and not in permanent form.

It was learnt that the famed lawyer argued that Mba’s transfer to Dolphins and other clubs were on loan but Amaju was said not to have been intimidated by the lawyers as he made a brilliant case for Warri and he tendered more documents to back up his case.

Earlier the League Interim Management board had ruled that Mba was a Warri Wolves player after looking at the vital documents.
