Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Olufemi Ogunjimi, has said unhealthy military personnel with perennial health conditions face the risk of losing their jobs if they fail to patronise authorised hospitals.
Ogunjimi said this Thursday in Calabar, Cross River State when the Nigerian Navy in conjunction with Pzifer Pharmaceuticals and Cerah Clinics held a health enlightenment programme on the effect and causes of glaucoma.
He warned naval personnel against patronising herbalists and quack when they are ill.
He also warned them not to hide their medical conditions.
The FOC said the medical enlightenment on glaucoma was more like “train the trainer” event, adding that all the personnel and other attendees would in turn be required to impart what they had learnt to others.
Ogunjimi said, “Ignorance has made many people to be shy about their medical conditions. I want to advise that good health is a major criterion in the Navy and officers must key into the health standards.
“Those with perennial health issues, including eye problems may soon be declared unfit to continue in the service.”
