The Proprietor, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Chief Afe Babalola SAN, has said that university workers should be remunerated based on their input into the university system. This, he said, would bring out the best in the workers and enhance the standard of education in the country.
Babalola said this in an interview with our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti during the re-appraisal of competence exercise carried out for the lecturers and non-teaching staff of ABUAD on Monday. Explaining the motive behind the exercise, he said that it became necessary to do so to know how competent the workers were in the discharge of their duties.
He said that although the credentials presented before the workers were employed were thoroughly verified, but he said that the re-appraisal was carried out because some might be certificated without being competent.
The legal guru said that few of the workers would be shown the way out of the university because they did not measure up to the standard expected of them.
Babalola stated that the students of the university also played a role in appraising the competence of their lecturers, saying their rating of any lecturer counted so much in retaining or sacking such.
He said that although ABUAD was the first university in the country to adopt the re-appraisal of competence method, he said that the method was being used in varsities in Europe.
He said, “In this university, promotions and salaries depend on your productivity level and not just the number of years.
