The children approached the police for help after the woman deserted them and her husband to settle with her lover. Before leaving the house, the woman had instructed her estranged husband to take care of their six children.

Mahangi Devi, 32, was married to Bande Lal, 38, around 14 years ago during which the couple had six children. Everything was going fine until the woman fell in love with a local villager, Ranjan Mandal, some months back, after which she finally deserted her family to live with her new-found love. The woman has now declared she would go to any extent for the sake of her love. The bizarre incident relates to eastern Bihar’s Araria district.

“We felt sorry for our papa and decided to approach the police ‘uncle’ in the hope that he will do something to get back our mother,” the children led by their elder brother Bulbul, 13, told the media on Sunday after meeting the local Araria district superintendent of police, SW Lande. “Our mother has abandoned us to live with another man, and when my papa requested her to return saying he was ready to forgive her, she even threatened to implicate him in false cases,” the children added.

Stating that they were feeling “orphaned”, the children said: “We approached the SP Uncle in the hope that he will convince our mother to return home”. The local SP has assured the children to look into their requests but added that there was little the police could do in the matter.

“The woman has declared publicly that she was willingly living with her new love,” Lande said adding he had assigned a woman police officer to convince the woman to return to her children but said the police have limitations.
