There was pandemonium yesterday in Kaduna following report that Kaduna Arewa Textile had been razed by fire.
The fire which started around 11am caused serious panic because it was initially mistaken for a bomb explosion. Security men and traders, who were close to the textile company, and passers-by scampered for safety.
Thick flames could be seen from long distance. Our reporter, who visited the site of the inferno, gathered that the fire was caused by dry leaves and grasses being burnt in the premises of the firm. This fire was said to have escalated and moved to the chemical department of the textile industry.
Sunday Trust observed that the chemical department contained drums and tanks filled with chemicals.
Men of the fire service rushed to the scene of the fire to quench it while security men, including police and members of civil defence corps, took charge of the area.
The men of the Kaduna State fire service and an officials of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who were at the scene of the fire, however, said that they were yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
