Former Flying Eagles coach Tunde Disu believes Super Eagles manager Stephen Keshi can get the best out of Russia-based striker Emmanuel Emenike and Braga defender Elderson Echiejile if other talented players are called up to give them a fight for their places in the team.

Disu, who hailed the efforts of both players in helping Nigeria lift the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time in South Africa on February 10, said they could transformed into great players if they face a stiff challenge from equally determined rivals.

He said, “They are very good players but they still have a lot to learn about the game. Emenike is strong and blessed with a good height, but he’s not yet a complete striker.

“He can be our top striker if his under pressure from another striker. By so doing we’ll get the best out of him.

“Echiejile is a good left-back but we need another strong left-back to compete with him.”

Disu said Keshi had proved the doubters wrong by winning the Africa Cup of Nations with six domestic league players in his squad.

“He picked the best home-based players for the tournament and we are celebrating today. I’m very happy he didn’t listen to critics when he decided to play Sunday Mba and (Godfrey) Oboabona in his first team.”

He commended the Nigeria Football Federation for allowing the team train in Portugal ahead of the championship, saying it helped concentration.
