Houses Destroyed As Crisis Hits Imo Community

Another round of intra-communal crisis has hit Ububo community, Awarra in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, with several houses destroyed.

Similarly, other property worth millions of Naira have  been damaged or looted by the feuding parties.

Investigations revealed that apart from the property destroyed, aged women and young girls have reportedly been raped.

Currently, most of the indigenes of the area have relocated to safer  neighbouring communities.

It would be recalled that trouble started during a botched youth election in Ububo but soon after, a group of boys, suspected to be cultists and who lost during the exercise, re-grouped and unleashed mayhem in the community.

As at the last count, no fewer than 10 houses belonging prominent sons of the area, including the traditional ruler, Eze Ekwueme Ekwueme, and former Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Imo State University, Owerri, Dr. Vitalis Nwulu, have either been razed down or partly destroyed.

Although the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Vitalis Onugu, could not be reached for comment, a source in the state Police Headquarters, Owerri, confirmed the incident.

He said the command had already waded into the matter and some arrests made.
