A 40-year-old man, Akeem Olanrewaju, was on Tuesday sentenced to two months imprisonment by an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for illegal parking.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Olalekan Obayanju, said the defendant committed the offence on Saturday at Orita Challenge at about 8.20p.m while driving a Nissan car marked OYO EGB37XA, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He said the defendant illegally parked his car on the highway, committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 34 of the Road Traffic Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
The defendant, who pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of illegal parking, was consequently convicted.
Chief Magistrate Adams Adeshina sentenced him to two weeks imprisonment with an option of N3,000 fine.
In another development, a 35-year old man, Oseni Oladejo, has been dragged before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Black Berry set valued at N65,000 and property of one Fatai Fadipe.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Foluke Adedosu, said the defendant committed the offence on December 13 at about 3p.m at Idiaro junction in Ibadan.
Adedosu, who told the court that two other cell phones were found in Olanrewaju’s possession, said he committed the offence contrary to and punishable under sections 390 and 428 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and unlawful possession of property.
Chief Magistrate Adams Adeshina admitted him to a bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two reliable sureties and adjourned the matter till January 17, 2013 for definite hearing.
