A six month old-baby and four others have been killed while 10 people sustained serious injuries in a night attack by gunmen on Aduwan Gida, Zangon Kataf Local government of Kaduna state.
The incident which happened at about 10pm on Saturday, affected mostly women and children who had gathered in celebration of the peaceful exit of their 76 year-old village head, Marcus Mantuwa.
According to a resident, the gunmen invaded the community, shooting sporadically in the air when they were having a night party in honour of their dead village head.
"When they came, they started shooting sporadically. There were many people at the compound of the late village head and many people were affected while dancing.
"Three people were killed at the spot while two others died at the St. Louis Hospital Zonkwa. Five other injured persons have been taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital," SOKAPU Youth Chairman in Zangon Kataf Local government, Steve Swam told Daily Trust.
The police in Kaduna are yet to make an official statement concerning the killings.
