From now on, persons who have attained the age of 60 would benefit from free medical care introduced by the Katsina State Government as part of new health welfare scheme to assuage the aged in the state.
Addressing newsmen after the state executive council meeting, the Head of Service, Aliyu Daura, said the decision was taken to improve health condition of aged people in the state assuring that beneficiaries would enjoy free drugs for all ailments.
Daura who said the council has constituted a committee to oversee the new programme and ensure its sustainability said, “all categories of ailments are included in the scheme which is aimed at providing the basic need for the aged.”
He disclosed that the committee headed by state commissioner of health, Usaini Garba Yanmama had been mandated to conduct a census of persons who have attained 60 years of age so as to engender effective implementation of the scheme.
Our correspondent reports that the scheme is coming barely few days after the state government commenced disbursement of N10,000 cash to each disabled persons in the state as part of its new poverty alleviation initiatives.
