A 32-year-old married woman was left nursing wounds after being struck with a machete on the head and shoulder for turning down a love proposal.
It is reported that Wellington - Tshuma (28) proposed love to Funny Nyathi sometime in August and had his proposal turned down. This did not go down well with the love struck man and he threatened Nyathi with unspecified action. The two who reside in the same village met on 8 December at around 2pm.
Tshuma asked Nyathi why she was not greeting him. He further demanded to know if she still maintained her stance that she did not love him. He reportedly tried his luck for the second time, but was turned down again.
She is said to have poured out her heart making it clear that she did not love him and would never do so as she was already married. This allegedly Infuriated Tshuma who took a machete that he was holding and attacked her. He struck her twice on the head and thrice on the shoulder leaving her for dead.
A Good Samaritan, saw the woman and rushed her to the hospital. A report was made to the police leading to Tshuma's arrest. The machete man was hauled before the magistrate, Mr Livared Phillimon, and he pleaded not guilty to the charges saying the complainant might have been beaten by her "boyfriends".
He left the court in stitches when he claimed that the complainant was the one who has always showed interest in him, but he turned her down. He said that she was fabricating the story.
