The construction company workers were kidnapped in Bauchi, North Eastern Nigeria on Sunday.

Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, has ordered security agencies to find and rescue seven foreign construction workers who were kidnapped in Bauchi State on Sunday.

The president gave the directive on Monday. The seven workers – one Briton, an Italian, a Greek and four Lebanese- were kidnapped in Jama’are area of Bauchi in the early hours of Sunday.

The workers are staff of Setraco, a construction company. An Islamic group, Jama’atu Ansarul Musilimina Fi Biladis Sudan, popularly referred to Ansaru, claimed responsibility for the kidnap in a statement on Monday.

The group said it kidnapped the foreigners because of the "transgressions done to the religion of Allah by European nations in many places such as Afghanistan and Mali."
