Group rejects Akeredolu as ACN governorship candidate in Ondo 4 years ago 1

A group of professionals in the Ondo State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria on Friday rejected the choice of Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the party’s candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The group, known as the Sunshine Liberation Front, condemned the process that produced Akeredolu as the candidate of the ACN in Ondo, adding that he was imposed on the party from Lagos State.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the SLF, Mr. Segun Odidi, said the members of the party were shocked by the development.

Describing Akeredolu as a ‘political neophyte’ that is not capable of leading the Ondo ACN to victory in an election, he said the group would not be a part of the arrangement to field him as the party’s governorship candidate.

Odidi said, “It is amusing that the leadership of the party could ignore aspirants such as Dr. Olu Agunloye, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice and Mr. Saka Lawal and picked Akeredolu who is alien to the politics of the state.

“The choice of Akeredolu from Lagos amounts to imposition and the SLF is not going to be part of that arrangement. We reject the choice of Akeredolu in totality as it cannot lead the party to anywhere.

“For obvious reasons, the SLF has been working tirelessly to ensure that the ACN wins the forthcoming governorship election in the state, but our morale was dampened with this kind of choice.

“Akeredolu is alien to the politics of Ondo State and the people of the state do not know him. He is a political neophyte. The leadership of the party has jettisoned those who worked to build the party and opted for somebody that cannot win in his ward.”

The SLF said it would study the situation before deciding what to do next.

The group urged its members to remain calm. Home Page
