President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to meet with security chiefs at n emergency meting of the National Security Council on Friday afternoon.

This hint was given by the President’s spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, in a message on Twitter.

He wrote, “President Jonathan is back from Rio+20 summit. Meeting with the National Security Council this afternoon.”

The National Security Council is created by Section 25 of Part 1 of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution “to advise the President on matters relating to public security, including matters relating to any organisation or agency established by law for ensuring the security of the Federation.”

The Council comprises the President (Chairman), Vice-President (Deputy Chairman), Chief of Defence Staff, Minister of Interior, Minister of Defence, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police and “such other persons as the President may in his discretion appoint.”

Jonathan returned from the Rio+20 Summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on friday morning. His trip was greeted by outrage, as many Nigerians felt it was wrong for him to have left the nation at a time when the Boko Haram sect was causing problems in some parts of the country.

Vice-President Namadi Sambo had met with security chiefs on Tuesday in Abuja, to discuss the insecurity threats around the country. Home Page
