Uneasy calm pervades the ancient city of Kano following a time bomb that exploded near Zoo Road, Wednesday morning.
The incident is coming on the heels of a failed attempt by a yet-to-be identified group to blow up a luxury bus along Zaria Road, by Kundila Housing Estate, yesterday night.
An explosive device was detonated around 7:30 am on Wednesday, near Filin Hockey Police Station off Zoo road in Kano.
Eyewitnesses said the device was planted beneath a street light opposite the police station. The explosion was followed by sounds of gun fire, presumed to have been a response from the police to ward off any potential attack. We are on top of the situation and there is no cause for alarm. We shall in due course issue a statement on the incidents.
Security sources in the city confirmed there were no casualties in the two incidents, adding that troops have been deployed to the affected areas to restore “confidence and normalcy”.
Isa Sale, a resident at Zoo road told Vanguard that he saw the troops with Amoured Personnel Carriers, APCs , heading to the scene, adding that the area was immediately cordoned off. The previous day, an explosion was reported around the same neighbourhood.
When contacted, police spokesman, ASP Magaji Musa Majia said the command will issue a statement on the two incidents in due course.
