The Ikom and Ogoja stadia being built at the cost of N2.2bn by Cross River State will be ready in November this year, the Commissioner for Special Projects, Mr. Bassey Oqua, said on Tuesday.
Oqua stated this at Ikom while briefing the team of the National Good Governance Tour which arrived in the state late on Sunday.
The NGGT, comprising over 100 persons including non-governmental organisations, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, among others, was led by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Information, Mrs. Kehinde Ijani, who stood in for the minister, Mr. Labaran Maku.
Speaking at the construction site in Ikom, Oqua said the two stadia would cost the state N2.2bn, adding that the structure would have been ready in March this year but for land acquisition tussle which was only recently settled.
He said the stadia, which would also have lawn tennis courts; basketball courts and a swimming pool would go a long way in identifying and developing sportsmen and women at the grassroots.
When completed, the stadia would complement the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
