Kaduna: Shoot on sight order conditional – Army

Contrary to reports in some national dailies that men of the Nigerian Army have been given shoot on sight order, spokesperson of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman, yesterday said the order was conditional.

The army spokesman told Daily Trust in a telephone interview that the order was conditional in the sense that soldiers are only allowed to fire if they are defending themselves or someone else. He explained that the order is not that soldiers should shoot any individual on the streets but that if anyone is trying to commit one crime or the other, they have the authority to shoot that person just like in the laws of engagement.
