Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has displayed superiority over the major opposition Congress for Progressive Change in Kaduna State when it won 22 out of the 23 local government chairmanship seats in the local government polls held on Saturday.
The elections, which many residents and analysts feared might degenerate into another crisis should PDP carry the day, later turned out to be peaceful and orderly.
Though unwilling to take chances after the results were declared, the state government beefed up security in areas identified as flash points for violence and crises. It also drafted armed soldiers and police to major roads and border towns to maintain law and order.
The summary of the results, read by the Chairperson, Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission SIECOM , Dr. Hannatu Biniyat at about 9pm yesterday at the headquarters of the electoral body, saw General Muhammadu Buhari led CPC winning only one local government.
It was the Kaduna North Local government, where Vice President Namadi Sambo hails from. It was won by Samaila Suleiman.
The other 22 local government areas cleared by PDP are: Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Giwa, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba Jema’a, Kachia, Kaduna South, Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kubau, Kudan, Kauru, Lere, Makarfi ,Sabo-Gari, Sanga, Soba, Zango-Kataf and Zaria.
Similarly, out of the results of 99 councillorship seats declared so far, PDP won 95, CPC won 3, while ACN won just one seat.
It was gathered that PDP will most likely sweep majority of the 156 councillorship seats yet to be declared.
