Teenager Commits Suicide After Break-Up With Girlfriend

A top student who dreamed of being a vet killed himself two weeks after his girlfriend's father stopped him from seeing her, an inquest has heard.

A coroner suggested that 18-year-old Joshua Bazeley was driven to suicide by his heartache at being forced to separate from Hannah Kinston.

On the day of his death, the teenager was apparently told that his ex had become involved with another man.

Mr Bazeley, of Stapenhill in Staffordshire, had achieved top grades at school and was about to start studying at the Royal Veterinary College at the time of his death in July last year.

An inquest at Burton Town Hall heard that Mr Bazeley had started dating Miss Kinston in February while doing work for her father John at his farm in the nearby village of Stanton.

But when Mr Kinston found out that his daughter had been seeing the teenager he put a stop to the relationship, according to the police officer investigating Mr Bazeley's death.

'After around six months, Mr Kinston became aware of the relationship,' PC Andy Hogan said. 'This coincided with a huge increase in his daughter's mobile phone bill.

'He intervened and said he didn’t want the relationship to continue. Josh was upset about this.'

The couple split on June 30, and on July 15 a friend told Mr Bazeley via Facebook that his ex-girlfriend had 'got over you' and had 'fallen for' someone else.

The young man then appeared to 'descend into a state of upset and confusion', according to Mr Dolan.

He wrote in a Facebook message, 'I have reached a point where I feel like nobody cares about me,' adding: 'The only people I ever loved are pulling away from me.'

Hours before his death, he searched the internet for information on prescription drug overdoses, the inquest heard.

Mr Bazeley stepped in front of a lorry on the A38 around 1am on July 16, and was killed instantly.

Margaret Jones, deputy coroner for South Staffordshire, recorded a verdict of suicide, saying the teenager was 'very deeply affected' by his split from his girlfriend after 'it was deemed by her father that the relationship was perhaps a little premature'.

The coroner added: 'Quite what triggered his final thoughts to prompt him to step in front of that vehicle we are simply never going to know.'
