The Zamfara State Shari’a High Court in Gusau has remanded a married woman and mother of six, A’isha Muhammad, for allegedly dating one Ibrahim Dauran, and collecting dowry from him in preparation for marriage, while still married to her husband.
When the charge was read to her, the accused pleaded for mercy, saying she never knew that her action was against the teachings of Islam, and that she committed the act because she does not love her husband.
The prosecutor, Arabi Alqaseem, told the court that one Shu’aibu Iliyasu Gusau has been in an illegal relationship with A’isha for sometime. He said A’isha told the man that she was not married, and that he should make arrangements for their marriage. He also alleged that Aisha collected N15,000 from Shuaibu as dowry.
The prosecuting officer further told the court that Aisha took the accused to one Sani Musa, claiming that he was her father, when in actual fact he is not.
After listening to the prosecution, the judge ordered that the woman be remanded in prison for two weeks to enable the court summon all witnesses involved.
