A former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly and Chairmanship candidate of Soba Local Government Area on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the December 2012 Kaduna LG elections, Alhaji Kawu Ibrahim Yakasai has been dragged to a Kaduna Chief Magistrate court for alleged forgery of certificate.
The former lawmaker was accused of committing the offences of forgery and false evidence contrary to sections 362 and 164 (1) of the penal code and punishable under sections 364 and 158 (2) of the penal code law.
Musa Mustapha and Alhaji Ubale Telan Matasa through their counsel, Barrister Garba U. Shehu, alleged that the May/June 1988 GCE statement of result obtained from Barewa College, Zaria was false.
Therefore, Yakasai would appear before the Chief Magistrate Court ,Daura Road, Kaduna today following a suit filed by Garba U. Shehu, lawyer to the two complainants, Musa Mustapha and Alhaji Ubale Telan Matasa.
According to the application for issuance of criminal summons made available to newsmen, yesterday, in Kaduna, the accused person (Yakasai) claimed that he sat for the May/June 1988 GCE Examination and was issued a statement of result by the authorities of Barewa College Zaria.
He presented the said Certificate to the relevant Electoral bodies when he stood for elections. “The accused person attended Barewa College, Zaria between 1982-1988 on graduation, the accused person was issued a Testimonial.
“The accused person presented the said Certificate to the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) in his FORM KDCF001A (Affidavit in support of personal particulars of persons seeking election for Chairman/Councilor) which he swore to before the High Court of Justice, Zaria on October 29,2012 having been nominated to contest for the position of Chairman, Soba Local Government under the platform of the PDP in the forthcoming LG Election in Kaduna State.
