Gunmen Kill Two In Plateau State

At least two people were ambushed and killed by gunmen in Barkinladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Wednesday Morning, the council boss, Emmanuel Loman, has said.

This is coming about two days after gunmen, suspected to be security officials, fired at people in a drinking joint, killing 10 and injuring dozens.

Mr. Loman, the Management Committee Chairman of Barkinladi, stated this in a phone interview with PREMIUM TIMES.

The council chairman said the victims were killed in the early hours of Wednesday while on their way to their routine farming activities in the Sho Village of the council.

Mr. Loman, in a shaken voice, said that one of the victims was his relation. He said that the victims were ambushed by suspected Fulani herdsmen whom he said opened fire at close range killing the two men.

The embattled council boss said that the victims, who were on a motorbike, died on the spot. The victims were buried at about 3:00 p.m. in Sho village.

Barkinladi Council was among the four council areas President Goodluck Jonathan imposed a state of emergency on due to persistent security breaches. The killings have, however, continued.
