A Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Tuesday, ordered the re-arrest of one of the pharmacists, Orji Osita, suspected of alleged involvement in the murder of Miss Cynthia Osokogu, who was murdered in a hotel at Festac town, Lagos on July 22.
The pharmacists and his colleague, Maduakor Chukwunonso, were released from custody last Wednesday on the order of a High Court sequel to a ruling delivered by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo.
The Judge ordered their release based on a DPP advice dated November 1, issued by the Ministry of Justice, and an affidavit of response filed by a counsel from the ministry exonerating the two pharmacists and two others from blame over Cynthia’s death.
However, there was a mild drama in court, yesterday, between the prosecution and the defence teams, leading to arguments over the new advice, dated November 16 from the same office of the DPP, which in turn found Osita culpable.
The moment the case was called, presiding Magistrate P. A. Adekomaya disclosed that there was a new advice from the DPP’s table, which indicted one of the pharmacists, Osita, while Maduakor Chukwunonso, Gideon Okechukwu and Ezeaka Chinonso, earlier freed in the November1 advice, were unconditionally discharged and acquitted. He subsequently ordered the re-arrest of the third defendant (Orji Osita).
