5-Day Polio Immunization Ends In Abuja Tomorrow

Another round of five-day immunization plus exercise for children between ages 0 and 59 months was kicked off on Friday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and is expected to be rounded off tomorrow.

Executive Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, revealed this when he conducted newsmen round some churches in Garki and Karu districts of Abuja.

He said only Abaji out of the six area councils have refused to release money to assist in the conduct of the polio vaccination exercise, in which one child stands the risk of infecting 300 children.

Dr. Mohammed said his board received about 900 doses of vaccination from the National Primary Health Care Development Board NPHCDB, which has already been distributed to trained health care workers. He said despite the challenges being faced in the exercise like house marking, many churches are embracing the exercise which he described as commendable and called on the Muslims to also accept the polio vaccination in good faith.

The Executive Secretary, said AMAC has released N16 million and other kits and materials used during the exercise, which is being conducted according to the work plan of each of the six area councils in the territory.
