Nigeria May Face Cote d’Ivoire

Super Eagles may face star-studded tournament favorite, Cote d’Ivoire, in one of the quarter final matches of the Nations Cup on Sunday in Rustenburg. Going by the draw, runners up of group C (Nigeria) is to face the winner of group D. And the Elephants enter today’s last group match against Algeria as leaders of the group.

The Didier Drogba-led Elephants had in their first two games beaten Togo by 2-1 and Tunisia 3-0. All the Elephants need to top the group is a draw against Algeria in today’s match. The pairing could, however, change if the Ivoriens lose the game and Togo or Tunisia win in the other match of Group D at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Both Togo and Tunisia enter the game with three points, but Togo has a +2 goal aggregate advantage against Tunisia that has -1. If Togo wins by two goals and the Elephants lose, then that will see Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire avoiding each other. Tunisia, on the other hand, will need to beat Togo by as many as five goals to top the group, if Cote D’Ivoire loses to Algeria.

With everything pointing to the Elephants topping the group, the Super Eagles must prepare for the mother of all battles on Sunday.
