PHCN Retiree Dies Mysteriously In Garki Village

An official with the Power Holding Company of Nigerian (PHCN) Maitaima branch identified as Mr. Aienoben Akhidimen has died mysteriously in his residence at Garki Village.

The landlady of the deceased, Mrs. Chinyere Ejike said the sad incident occurred between the hours of 6 to 7pm on Friday.

Ejike said she saw the deceased last before 6pm, during the Nigeria-Zambia football match on January 25, 2013.

According to her, the incidence got to the notice of her family, when her younger son waited to see the deceased, Akhidimen come out as usual to react to the Nigerian match but did not hear from him.

She said the boy decided to go into his room to check on him and that as he approached the deceased’s room, he saw a black cat running out of the room but he did not suspect anything until he got close to the room but did not hear any sound, following which he opened the door and found Akhidimen motionless body lying with his back on a chair and with his eyes open.

Ejike said the boy had rushed to inform her and that after going to confirm for herself, she informed her husband who quickly alerted the surveillance officers of the Nigeria police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja who accompanied them to the apartment and discovered that the late Mr. Akhidimen was no longer breathing and they immediately took his body to the mortuary at the Abuja National hospital.

It was also gathered that, the late Akhidimen in December 2012, after his statutory retirement on February 12, 2012, decided to relocate his family to his home town in Edo state and had come back to Abuja this January to collect the rest of his belongings, only to meet his untimely death.

When our reporter visited the deceased residence, his wife, Mrs. Ana Akhidimen who returned to Abuja on Saturday was seen crying profusely. Ana who struggled to control her emotions said although all had not been well with the late assistant Manager in the legal department of PHCN, his huge frame and lively disposition never presented a clue to many body that he has a bad health condition.

She said an autopsy was being conducted on the corpse of her late husband before he will be taken for burial at his hometown in Edo state.

Efforts to get further information from the police officer handling the investigation proved futile at the time of this report.
