A fire incident Tuesday night razed down block of seven shops at Bayan Tasha market in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.
Shop owners at the market said their properties worth millions of naira were burnt by the inferno.
Residents close to the market revealed that the incident happened at about 10:30pm when Power Holding Company (PHCN) restored high voltage power. Mr Toufeeq, a refrigerator repairer living behind the shops said they noticed smoke billowing from the shops soon after power was restored.
“It was not more than five minutes after electric light was brought back that we started noticing the smoke, and we cannot help the situation because it’s within curfew hours, we leave everything to God,” he said.
A shop attendant at Alhaji Umar Mala’s garment shop who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that properties worth N15 million were razed by the fire.
“We brought consignments worth N10 million adding to the ones available, our boss had travelled for hajj, we are expecting him this week, it’s a great lost to all of us” he said.
