The Zamfara Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Wednesday that 85 persons died in 285 road accidents in the state between January and November.
The Sector Commander, Alhaji Ibrahim Sarki, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau that 950 persons were injured in the accidents which involved 349 vehicles.
Sarki said there was a decrease in the accident rate, compared to the situation last year when 156 died and 1,273 were injured in 295 accidents, which involved 412 vehicles.
He said the command had carried out enlightenment campaigns in almost all motor-parks, schools and other public places to enlighten the people on good driving habits.
The commander said the commission also carried out corridor public enlightenment for commercial motorcyclists to check route violations, over-loading, over-speeding and other offences.
He advised motorists to ensure that their vehicle lights were in good condition and to avoid over-speeding, especially during the harmattan.
Sarki thanked the state government for donating two patrol vehicles and providing other welfare packages for the command during the Ramadan and Eid-el-kabir celebration.
