Members of the African Union (AU), at the opening ceremony of its summit yesterday, adopted the proposal of a standby African Force that will deal squarely with the problem of military takeover and instability in the continent.
The Force is to operate on the command of AU Chairman.
Speaking with Channels TV crew, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga Ashiru, explained that top on the agenda of the 20th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethopia is maintaining peace and security in the trouble spots on the continent.
He further disclosed that the African Force will be readily available for deployment to any part of the continent with 48 hours, should the need arise.
The theme for this years’ summit is ‘Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance.’
